Joint Services Open House and Air Show 2009

Andrews AFB, MD
May 15th, 2009
Weather : Very overcast, with some patches of late sun.
This show was not on my list for this year. I added it to the list due to my NASA trip, which was canceled for personal reasons.  So to tickle my fancy, I took the short drive down for the Friday show (not opened to the public).  On the drive down, I was pretty excited to see the windows in my car fogging up, for one reason only, the air was full of humidity. Humidity equals vapor, and lots of it.  The show produced the most vapor that I, along with a few buddies, have ever seen.   The F-22 was covered for the whole demo, and the A-10 whipped some up on it's sharp turns (also nice to see them back in the circuit!).  The Thunderbirds flew an early flat show, since the show had a few schools there.  After a little break, the Super Hornet took to the sky. We were all suspecting that it was going to produce one hell of a cone, since the first demos made lots of it. We were spoiled from earlier and became disappointed that it made nothing.  Plus it flew half of it's demo for some reason? With a few holes in the clouds to let in sun, it gave us good lighting for a bit. But sadly, it took away our humidity.  The static display wasn't as great as other years, but still the best on the east coast.  After the show, we all headed over to the Nationals new ballpark to see the Phillies play (pictures).  Air shows and baseball, what a day.
