Like always, this show has always been one of the best shows in the
country. This year was almost a carbon copy of last year's show,
minus the Strike Eagle, and the addition of the Warthog. The flybys
this year were lacking, but a few goodies came in. An E-2 Hawkeye flew up
from NAS Norfolk to make a few passes, making its first appearance at this
show. The 111th Fighter Wing from NAS/JRB Willow Grove sent two of
their three remaining Hogs for one, and probably their last, pass.
And like last year, we were lucky enough to get four F-22 Raptors, from
the 1st Fighter Wing, to make their way up the coast to fly a couple of
passes again. The air was more than just right to produce some of
the best vapor ever formed at an air show. The C-5M Galaxy, once again,
did not show up.
The F-18F Super Hornet flew one heck of a demo on Tuesday, while dancing
with the speed of sound, After completing his high speed pass,
he pulled up quickly causing parts of the aircraft to go supersonic
causing a mini sonic boom to happen. This is not a rare event, nor is it
common, but its definitely a treat and LOUD. With the drop of Jim
Beasley's Spitfire from the schedule, Josh Wilson and his beautiful YaK-50
was added. He is fairly new to the circuit, but he will be a well known
name in a few years for sure. He gave the guys on the pier a little love
as he finished his routine. To finish the show, the Thunderbirds
flew one of the sloppiest demos I have ever seen them fly. But then
again, what they do is not a cake walk. |
